CV / resume layout
Layout is an important part of the English CV / resume. Of course, the ideal layout of any CV or resume depends partially on the industry that the owner of the CV applies to. A CV in banking should probably be more discrete than a CV in advertising.
The English CV / resume layout, as a CV / resume in any other language, should, however, generally, be neat and easy to read and understand. The CV or resume should be written in a font that is easy to read, e.g. Times New Roman, Garamond or Arial. The CV or resume should also have a font size that does not cause any reactions; it is usually recommendable to use a layout font size of 10, 11 or 12. Remember, however, that the CV or resume should generally be just one page (if you a very senior your CV can be two pages). So if your CV or resume is 1.2 pages with font size 12 then it might be a good idea to use a layout font size of 10 so as to make your CV / resume fit on just one page. As regards the colour of the CV / resume layout this should also be discrete. It is recommendable to use black as the font colour for the CV layout. Below we discuss the layout of the headlines of the CV or resume.
The CV / resume should have headlines. The headlines’ layout should, as the general layout, be discrete and neat. As regards the headlines´ layout, however, one can try to use a grey colour. Just remember to use a rather dark grey colour so it is certain to be readable when printed on any printer.
After having finished your English CV it is time to send your CV and cover letter to a potential future employer. Nowadays is usual for employers to accept job applications to be sent via e-mail. It is often customary to attach your CV / resume as a PDF file. To make your CV into a PDF-file you need a program that can make PDF files of the file format that your CV / resume is made in. If you do not have such a program, you can find them readily available on the Internet. Download.com is an example of a webpage that offers programs that can make PDF-files of e.g. word documents, which is one of the programs that you can easily make a CV with a nice layout with. After having made a PDF version of your CV / resume it is advisable that you check the CV layout, as sometimes the layout of e.g. a word document may be altered when making into a PDF document.
