Job application - CV / resume
In the job application one of the most important and self evident documents is the CV or resume. The main purpose of this document is to swiftly show a concise and clear picture of your background as regards working experience and education. The CV or resume is generally written in a chronological manner so as to make it easier for the reader of the job application to get a clear picture of your background. The CV is the document in the job application that is intended to show a neutral picture of who you are by listing your education and previous and current employments.
Job application - Cover letter
The job application also contains a document often called cover letter. The cover letter is in a way the document in the job application that is in a straight line directed at the receiver of the job application. This means that the one receiving the job application should be thought of when writing the cover letter. While the English CV / English resume should be a quite neutral description of your background the cover letter may be less neutral. In other words, in the job application, the cover letter is the document that lets you explain why you are the right person for the job that is being applied for.
Job application - Grades etcetera
Job applications should often contain grades or other documents of different achievements. It can sometimes be difficult to know whether to include e.g. grades. If the job ad says that grades from university should be included then the question is easy, but if the job ad does not say anything about that it is trickier. It can be a good idea to phone the company or organisation in question to ask if the job application should include grades or it the job application should not do so. If including grades etcetera remember to include them in a neat manner. If you send job application via e-mail your grades should be in PDF-format. If you send the job application via normal mail make sure that the grades included are printed in a neat fashion.
